Finishes this year.

Finish Along 2014
OK, I understand that this is not due until the very end of December, but quite frankly, with all the stuff happening right before New Years, I won't have another day to complete this work.  So today or rather tonight, I decided to give up, and let it go.  I over did it, stating that I would finish 6 BOM's that I was working on throughout the year, and that I would have all of them done.  Not likely, but now I'm ready to concede. Why?  Because I did other quilts at the last minute for Christmas gifts.  So here is the link to the promise of what I would complete for the 2014 Finish Along with Katy from the "Thee Littlest Thistle".

A Lovely Year of Finishes
I also entered a quilt for "A Lovely Year of Finishes from "Fiber of All Sorts" and "Bittersweet", two fantastic sites to follow.  They are doing the same thing next year and I'm all in girls!!!  Still have a list of quilts to complete including some of my BOMs from this past year.  Also have 5 others that I followed but did not start, so I have plenty to do.  I also have 5 other kits that I found when cleaning up my sewing room for my mom who visited.  And my husband after discovering how much fabric I have has said "No more purchasing until I get some of this completed".  He's right of course, but who wants to not own such beautiful material (sigh......).  I need help!

All of these quilts have links or buttons on the side to click and see what was done.  You'll notice also on the side that there is a section called completed.  That's where most of the links are now.
Here is my list of quilts that I said I would do:

1)  Quilt Doodle Design - wonderful Christmas Quilt - All done.  Here will be a Quilt Hop at Quilt Doodle Designs in January to see everyone's winter quilt.  Join us...

2)  Pat Sloan's Globe Trotter Mystery Quilt BOM - completed it and gave it away for Christmas.  Turned out beautiful with Robert Kaufman material.  But no photo did justice to the material.

Loved it so much I did a smaller version for a Contest for my Quilting Guild.

3)  Debbie Mumm's Quilt of Honor - Husband didn't want to give this one away.  Also turned out exceptionally well.  Plain quilting on it, but really I should redo the quilting to something special in the square blocks.  I'll think about it. Maybe a star of some sort??  Any suggestions out there?

4)  Vice Versa Quilt - here is where I didn't have the time to get to it, even though I had two more blocks to do.  I just didn't have the time to cut out the blocks and do it.  But I've seen finished ones on the Flickr group and so excited to complete, will do it in the new year.  Gen X Quilters also has another BOM starting in January that looks very modern and great!!!  Want to do it but I'll have to think about it.
5)  My free Craftsy class that is a BOM.  Loved it!  Highly recommend it.  Look at the finished product (but not quilted so I failed in this one as well!!).  I joined another class that shows how to free style quilt each and every block (here I go again!!!)

6)  The final quilt that I said I would complete is my Pixelated Quilt.  Once more not done, but half way there. I did do 10 more rows of 2 1/2 inch quares.  It's a sunflower.  Coming along so well,

Size is large, but squares are 2 1/2 inches, so in the end about 2 inches each.
But I did do others, and this is what they look like.  (did I mention I work full time?  Boy am I sucking up!)They are all completed:
1)  !2th Man Quilt for my husband.  Seattle Seahawks of course!

2)  Flannel Quilt (had to finish it when my husband found out how much material I have.  We have a rule, I can't buy more material until I finish some quilts.  Well, I can't buy material now, until I get my stash down, because it's so much).  Called "Friends are like Flowers".  Sorry, bad picture.  Cat loves trying out quilts especially if they're made of flannel.

3)  A smaller quilt top that I've had cut out for 3 years, completed it today when I found it.  But I'm adding buttons for the center tomorrow.  Quilting all done.  Did echo quilting of the flowers.  It's about a yard wide.

4)  A kit that I absolutely loved to make. Graphic Quilt Cross by Allie Health.   It was two charm packs, one in black and one in white.  Take a look at the quilting. Spent a Saturday doing it on my small sewing machine.

   \

5)  Pinky.  It's all binded and finished, with a black backing, and I quilted in white thread.  Looks amazing.  My own design.  The picture below is not binded, but it is done.  See the quilting below as well.

6)  A purse
and finally .....
7)  a Wool table top for a round table all hand stitched.  Gave to my mom for Christmas.

Does that make up for not getting everything done on my list???

What was done this November....

A Lovely Year of Finishes
OK, here it is.  I think this has been my best month ever because many of my BOM's (block of a month) quilts came up.  In other words, the blocks are finished and I have to put it together.  So although I said I would finish a quilt that was over 3 years old, with the other BOMs showing up, I had finished I felt the need to do those before the 3 year one....  It's that late so, what's a few more months  ;).

So lets see from my list of things to do for November what I got done:

Globetrotting by Pat Sloan.   - DONE  and I love it.

Made an extra one of the center because I loved it so much.  Once more, the colors just don't make it on the camera, this is purple and green.  Below the square is 24".

Quilt Doodle Designs - done!!!  Great for Christmas

Debbit Mumm's Quilt of Honor - DONE with the top, need to quilt it!

cat likes it
Crafty 2012 BOM  - Not done yet.  Have one to go and then the quilt is done.  It's one of the quilts I said I would complete before the end of December, so it's on my list for next month.  But here's how it looks so far...  Just two blocks to go then putting it together.

Prairie Flowers wool quilt.  Didn't do anything on it, but did so a different wool table top.  Can't how it here, it's for someone's Christmas.  I really need to complete this one because I'm entering it for my Guild's Quilt show.

Snow quilt - Got the material like before but that's it.  Did some of the paper piecing but there are now three blocks to complete.  It ends in January.

Sew Sweet Simplicity at Jacquelynne Steves web site.  - never even started it.  Got to get it going.  Two blocks out now.

Aurifil November to do.  DONE!!! This one was really hard.  And I didn't know it but I missed October as well, so that's done as well.  All caught up but have December to finish.

Vice Versa - need to do two more blocks, but didn't do anything.  This one is finished by the way, so it needs to be finished on my end  ;)

Galaxy of the Stars from my Quilting Guild -
One August to do (there were two),  DONE
September to complete, and October.
I missed November's meeting so I'll have to get the pattern from the group before the next meeting.

Block Lotto pattern - really behind in this one.
  • June - still not caught up on the sun one.  Have one done, but I seem to be scared to do it.  Don't know why....  Need to pull up my boot straps...
  • July - spokes pattern.  Had 6 done but need to do 8 more..
  • September
  • October
  • and now November....
Sycamore Rose
block-2  (February)  -  Did very little on this one and there are 16 blocks in total, and this one is completed online as well.  Really need to get going.

Free Motion Quilt along  - been free motion quilting now on all my quilts lately.  But this is the course to teach me different styles so I need to get going.  My promise to myself was to get this one done soon.  Did try one day, but stalled.
    • Block 3 - DONE
    • Block 4 - 4 styles - not yet for the rest.
    • Block 5 - 4 styles
    • Block 6 - 4 styles.
    • Block 7 - need to make the blocks before quilting.
Apple Thangles - didn't do any last month, or this month.  Darn.
Pixulated quilt that I started on Crafty!!!   Never even touched it.  Need to get going on this one.
Here are my 2014 NewFO Challenges.
  • Modern quilt that I have cut out - green and purple - Not even touched.  Darn!!!

Quilting like crazy last two weeks...

Now I've done it!!!  I joined a group stating I would finish seven different quilts by the end of December, and what do I do?  Start a new one!!  Jeeze!!!  I'm nuts!!!

I have finished  a couple another BOM, this one by Debbie Mum called Honor Star.  This one was great, it was a number of blocks every two months.  Manageable and fun to do.  Take a look at the results.

My quilting Buddie

Two Styles of Blocks every 2nd month
4 blocks each one.
The borders will be white.
But that's not the only thing that I did.  I started a new one as well.  I'm really getting into modern style quilting.  This pattern is by Allie Health.  I saw it in Modern Patchwork Winter 2014 magazine. I really love it.  Started to quilt it this weekend as well. Take a look.  I'm very happy with how it turned out.  Sorry for the darkness of some of the picture but I took this at night, which is usually when I finish something. Need to use my camera instead of my iPad.  It's been a busy 2 weekends, the only time I have to sew.

I'm in the midddle of report cards, which means I'm in the middle of correcting everything that my high school students have handed in, which is a lot after I updated their marks, they started to hand in all sorts of late work.  That takes time to mark, but the quilting is my way of relaxing a bit, so I don't go crazy.  Great results right??

This was my "A Love Year of Finishes", almost done!!!  Just need to finish the quilting.

Quilting style. One white only
Think I'll send this one to the magazine to see if they publish it.  ;)

Now I have two more quilts to quilt (I do free style), and that's a lot of work.  But this means there are more for my friends to admire and my quilting guild to see  ;)

A Number of Projects to finish for December

Finish Along 2014
I'm entering the Q4 Finish-Along.  As you can see from two blog entries ago, I have a number a BOMs that have finish and now I have to finish the final blocks/rows and quilt everything together. There are 3 of them in total.  For the "A Year of Lovely Finishes" I decided to complete the Globetrotter quilt.  But for the "Q4 Finish Along 2014" I'm looking at the different block of the month by Quilt Doodle Designs as well.

I still have to do a row of lights for the quilt, but I have all the other blocks completed.  I'm looking at this....

What I have done

What the quilt looks like

To turn into this...... I'm even thinking of adding one more row, of something like circles of christmas ornaments, to make it longer.  Who knows.  But I'll have it done by the end!!  I started this in January.

It will be a record for me, two quilts finished at once and the other blocks of the month that are not completed.  Good luck to me...  See below for the other finished BOM to be completed.

Before (I also started this one in January):

The change in one Sunday

Finished look.  Mine is different.
A third one is from Debbie Mumm's Quilt of Honor.  It will go from this

Blocks

Finished Quilt.
Have a lot of work to complete on this one.

I also finished ViceVersa - unfortunately I'm two blocks behind, and this month we got the final instructions so this will be a surprise to me as well on how it will look.  But it will be a queen and it will be big again and to be completed.  Here is what it should look like.  I want to surprise you with the colours but you can always look at the tags on the left to see some of the blocks completed.

Crafty 2012 BOM was one that I took online, trying Crafty for the first time.  I really like it  - I'm behind in September and October's blocks (there are two each month, one old fashion and one modern) but then I need to put it together.  I don't know if I'll be able to finish this one because I signed up on Crafty for another course on how to quilt each block individually.  I signed up so I can continue to practise my free style quilting.  Starting to be good at it.  I quilt with one of those small singer machines.  Been doing queen sizes so far...

Finally, I would love to finish my sunflower pixelated quilt.  At present it looks like this:

and should be the completed one below.

I took this course in the summer on Crafty (free called Pixelating a Quilt), and I loved it.  Each square will be 2 inches.  You need to take a picture, pixelated, then mark your colours for each square and follow the map you made.  Like a treasure hunt.  I'm so excited about it that I bought the material for a different one without finishing this one.  Boy, am I crazy!!.

My link up is above. Click on the icon and you'll go to "The Littlest Thistle" to see what other quilters are going to do online.  They are so amazing.

To finish six quilts and all the blocks of my other blocks of the month that will not be completed by December will be quite the feat.  I also was planning a christmas quilt and I make all my christmas gifts.  We'll see how it goes.  Good luck to all the people here.

Debbie Mumm's Quilt coming along....

With my husband's order to stay home and take it easy, "sew if you want" - boy what hardship ;)  My flu was not as bad today, all that sleep yesterday seemed to have helped, and a day of just taking it easy, and doing a bit of sewing, has also helped it along.

I did some cutting, to catch up on a couple of quilt blocks that need to be done.  There's Debbie Mumm's Stars of Honour - a free block of the month every two months.  Each block of the month you need to make four or six of them.  Here they are:

Another project I worked on was the spike block from the Block Lotto site.  I want to join in the fun this month, I missed the last one completely because of all the striking going on at the end of the school year.  But this time, I'm bound and determine to join  :).  I need to make 14 blocks for the queen size quilt this month, and here are 9.

Two for the Block Lottery

These seven for me.  Need to make 14 in total.

The basic colours for my block lotto quilt are wild colours - but the most of them are the orange and yellow background fabric in the picture.

I've also worked very hard, and cut out the Vice Versa blocks.  It's the first time I've every make flying geese with the large block and four smaller squares method, but at the end I found it extremely easy.  Can't believe I've done it any other way....  Hopefully I finish the blocks tomorrow and will post them then, as well as put it up on Flickr.

Stars of Honor is beginning to grow.

It wasn't on my list of things to do because quite frankly, I had June to do it, but sometimes you feel like working with specific material and this was one of those days.  Debbie Mumm has a block of the month here that looks like the picture below.  She gives all the instructions at the start for the cutting but I've been cutting as I go because I wanted to try to use some of my stash and I have, but to make it for the military I have bought  some more to make it as big as it's getting.  The quilt is approximately 62" by 78" or thereabouts. It'll look great and my husband has already said he wants it. Sooooo  Another quilt to add to my collection.

This was May and June's block.  She does a section every two weeks so it's easy to complete and you make a number of the same blocks to add. The ones below, I had to make four of them.  The colours are different and definitely for a man.  But with the gold in it, it would be a lovely show quilt. Maybe.

Here is a picture with all the blocks so far:

This block of the month will last the entire year.  So I guess this will be one of my husband's Christmas gifts.

What September gave to me.

Well, I've been working and here's what I got done, even with 4 different trips this month, but the trips were 3 - 4 days so that s...
