July's Goals for the Month.

 Well, I have a quilt that was completed for a Medallion BOM, the only thing missing (it's all quilted) was the binding.  But my husband liked it so much he asked for it to be made into a queen size quilt for our bed.  And I liked the idea. 

Quilt Stats:

• Size: 65" - 65"
• Fabric:
  • Kaffe Fabric, an assortment of different types.
  • Unknown from an older collection
• Hobbs Batting:  Heirloom 90/10
• Aurifil Thread: 50 weight
  • Piecing & Quilting: #2600 (Dove Grey)
• Silly Moon Rulers:  Aztec
• Schmetz Needles: Universal 80/12

I plan on adding another divider like the ones in the picture above.  The bottom row will have two more cabin style blocks.  Then the sides will have a flower garden.  The top has another fan block,  with just white for the rest, so everything stands out.  That's the goal for July's month.

As for extras, I need to catch up on the summer bloc party.

I have three to complete, a bathing suit, sunglasses, and beach chairs in the sand.  Loving the look of it.  Can't wait to see it done.  You can join anytime.  Instructions on how to join are in my previous post.  You've missed 3 but you can still keep on going with the others.  

I'm looking at cutting out two more birds from the quilt pattern below but I want to place it like the picture below by SewFresh, one of my favorite pattern designers.

 I want to cut out two more cacti but I have already cut out 3 so I plan on sewing those from my Oh My Cacti by Pan and Paper Patterns.  

Those are the extras.  Along with one my husband has been demanding that I do.  It has something to do with LA.  So you'll have to wait to see.

One Monthy Goal for March

 Well I have tons of different quilts that I need to finish or at least start when I've gathered everything up in a neat little package, but for two weeks I'm working full time at the start of the month.  So I'm hoping to do the following...

Here are the three I'm looking at completing:

The bird pattern is from SewFresh, an Ontario quilter and pattern designer.  I'm looking at the larger one for my aunt for her larger living room table, where the cat will live on it  lol.  She uses the sew and flip method which I really like.

Look at that material, the colors are so vibrant.  They're from another quilt I made 20 years ago, so this will get her done, and get that material finished.  The background will be gray, like the picture.  The rest is all scraps, and I love using all of my scraps.

Another one I want to complete is the pods you see here.  I got the pattern off of Etsy.  I've made 4 of them already, and sent them out as gifts and christmas gifts.  It's quick and easy.  

Here's a better shot of the pattern by Pen and Paper on Etsy.  I already made the snake as a surprise for my husband when we came back from a trip to Scottsdale Arizona.  And he loves it.  Sorry about the terrible picture.  I'm doing the cacti and then in the corner the snake again.

Here's my material, all left overs but not the backing, which looks like sand.  It's the same material I used for the pattern.  It's half cut out, so I need to finish that and then sew it, and the designer uses stitch and flip as well, my favorite way to make a quilt.

Here's the pillow that I was talking about.  And the material that's brown is my background for the quilt I am making.  I'm going to use it as a hanging quilt to match the pillow.  I'm excited about it but unsure if I have the time to do these.  The one that's definite for this month is the cacti one, that's the goal, the others are bonuses.  This is my plan.

Wow it’s been a year!

 Of not blogging, but still of sewing.  My goodness, I’ve been busy.  Mostly it’s trying to teach during Covid and getting older, but enough of that…..

“I’m back baby!”  And I’m joining a few things to get it going.

The first is One Month Goal for November at Elm Street Quilts.

It’s a quilt that is partially done but I’m quilting the center then I’ll add the side pieces after I quilt them.  So I’m doing them separately then using quilt as you go to add them together.

Will be using the quilt as you go method.

I’ve started to quilt already.   The squares are 2 1/2 inches each and I’m cross crossing the squares.

Everything needs to line up, including the while space I’ve been putting in.  You can see what’s not done in the picture below.  The quilt will be a queen size.

So you can see it’s partly done but you can’t see the full effect because I want it to be a bit of a surprise. That’s the partial quilt draped on the side of my couch.  I’m quilting on a small Janomie, it will take some time….

Patchwork nine patch row by row is completed

It 's a lovely design from Patchwork Posse.  Each row is a disappearing nine patch that was created, then cut up and moved, and redone.  Thus the different designs for each and every block.  There are nine in total, and the quilt is very very large.  I did 6 of the rows in total, with a strip of fabric in between each row to separate them.

Some were more easier than others, some very elaborate.  My favorite is the one that my cat is modeling. It looks like a mountain range.  A triangle cut up and then resewn but in the opposite direction.  All the material was left over from two other projects.  This quilt row by row was excellent for getting rid of scraps in a wonderful way.  Look at the colors.

I quilted it in large swirls with variegated thread.

 The back is pieced as well with different scraps of material from the other quilts.  It looks fantastic, the colors are so rich.  All have flowers on them, so they all match.  I love it.  I also quilted as I went with this quilt with muslin on the back, then added this and quilted some more.  The results....

It's a Christmas gift to someone who asked for a quilt.  She'll adore it but she gets it in the summer.  So one more done before the end of the year.

Trying for the goal for February!!!

OK, I never made the first goal but I'm determined to make the next.  This goal is a quilt that's cut out and half sewn, but not completely.  Here is what it looks like right now and the pattern is a Craftsy one, all the geese just running around, but with great batiks, so I'm excited about when it will be done.  

I'm simplifying my life, and simplifying this.  So wish me luck.  I'm hooking up to Elm Street Quilts "One Monthly Goal".  Stay tuned.

One Monthly Goal for January

Like everyone else I'm making a New Year's Resolution, but not about losing weight (started this in October and have lost 25 pounds so far), or to exercise more often (I got a new FitBit and I'm working at over 11,000 steps a month), or eat healthy (I've been doing that for two years now).  No, this year's resolution is to take it easy this time.  

My lists of things to do for One Monthly Goal have been 4 - 20 different things, which now I look back at it, I've been reacting like a mad woman trying to get all of it done.  I mean really, I'm a high school computer teacher who works very hard all day with no prep time to assess students formally in school, so I take their work home and mark it which takes approximately 2 hours a night.  Then I need to relax and de-stress by sewing quilts and painting, and I sew one to two quilts a month.  Most of the quilts are queen size.  And I go to a painting class every Monday, then come home and try to fit in painting at least 2 hours a week.  Enough already.

It's called "One Monthly Goal" for a reason.  ;)  

So here's my ONE goal.  Finish quilting my pixelated sunflower.  Anything else is a bonus.  I've sandwiched it and now for the quilting which are tiny little circles to represent the seeds, and then the pedals.  It will be beautiful when done, and this one is close to two years old, from the sewing and quilting already.  If done, the blog entry will be a post of major pictures.  I want to put this into the Fraser Valley Quilting Guild Show this June with the theme of Canada 150th.  It's my own design.  It's for the farmers of the prairies, growing sunflower crops.

One monthly Goal has moved!!

Patty at Elm Street Quilts is doing it now!!!  It's still the same, and she'll be doing it for the rest of 2016 and next year as well.  Yeah!!!!!  Another year of it, because it does help me!!!  Buy thanks to Heidi at Red Letter Quilts for doing it all this time!  It's a big job and you did a fantastic job at it as well.

OK, was too busy last month to submit anything but I'm doing it now.  So much to choose from, so I'll make it easy on me.  Been working on this one, starting to piece it together, it's my block Lotto quilt that is 2 (yes two) years old.  Need to get my UFO's down, because I keep on starting new ones, and I have one I want to start for Christmas for my cousin.  Here's what it looks like now, not sewn together, just placed, but we'll see if that's how it ends up.  Really modern right?  Made it with as many wild colour material that I could find in my stash, then brought it all together with that cool colour green.  Good luck to me!  Have fun everyone.

One goal done....

Well the animals are completed last week, and I'm calling it "Animals in the city" because the yellow has skyscrapers on it.  The paper piecing pattern is by QuietPlay, a terrific site for a number of great patterns.  This pattern was a block of the month, one animal a month.  But there are many different types of animal patterns on the site.  Check them out.  This is the quilt hanging on my wall.  All the animals were made out of leftover scraps.  The yellow material is called "City Skyscrapers".

I also didn't like the monkey block  because there is no mouth.  I'm thinking of stitching one on.

But I do like my quilting stitch.   The next one was my favourite...

Finally, I did do one more smaller quilt this weekend...  From Aurifill and Pat Sloan's interview last month.  The last of her miniquilts for the 2015 season.  Now she's doing blocks from celebrity quilters.

It fits perfectly on my table.  I can't tell you the material on this one because it's made from scraps.  The size is 24 x 24".  Go ahead, make your own with Celine Perkins of Perkins Dry Goods.  Celine’s quilts have to be exact, such small pieces.   Celine is a master piecer and it shows in this quilt.  I quilted it using my walking foot, with a simple square stitch.  Her quilts are old fashion, and the material I picked out was perfect for this.  I love this one.

Change of plans...

I'm still so sad about "A Lovely Year of Finishes" being over.  Shanna and Melissa did a great job and I had so much fun.  That's why I'll miss it.  But now, much to my happiness someone else has taken over, and I now can join Hiedi at Red Letter Quilts for the "One Monthly Goal".  She's going to keep it up, so the rest of you, come join the fun!!

I'm looking this month to finish a couple of quilts.  I know it's a big goal but I made a list of all the quilts that I have a pattern and material for, and I just have too much!!!  I even made a New Years Resolution to not buy any more material until I finish two quilts (and I'm in withdrawal right now).  So that's my goal.  The two quilts are the following:

1. To finish my paper piecing project of  "Quiet Time at the Zoo", I have two more blocks to complete, then put it together, and quilt it.
2. My second goal is my Quilt Doodle Quilt.  I'm about to start the new one (come play!!!).  It's another Christmas quilt and you can't have enough of those to snuggle under in the winter.  It's so cute and the first one is a raindeer.  But enough of that, I need to finish this last one, and it's adorable....  I have the borders to complete this month, applique to add in the blank sections, then put it together and quilt it myself.
