Catch up Saturday

As school starts to come to a close, with so much to do, my craving to sew gets stronger and stronger, a craving that has to be satisfied.  Because I've been so busy, I have gotten behind on some of my BOMs.  Friday was all about going through applications for students who have applied for scholarships, That took from 3:00 till 6:15.  But it's done.  Not including the the three hours of review before the meeting.  That left me exhausted on Friday night, and no time for sewing.

This Saturday was my catch up day.  I went out with a friend, had a great day around Fort Langley.  It's north of Langley, right by the Fraser River (which by the way is now receding, thank goodness.).

There was a fort at one time (there is still a walk to the area) but they moved it in the town, and you can pay to enter it, it's huge.  It shows realistically what living in the fort was like.  It's well worth the trip for that alone.  But there is so much more to do, including tons of antiques at a warehouse right in town.  Check it out.  I was there from 11:30 - 3:30, and so busy, you need two days to see it all.

Here are some shots that show you the CN station you can walk through as well as the main town.

They do a lot of filming in this area for small town shots.

Back to my catch up day.

When I got home, my husband had done almost all of our cooking.  I just had one more thing to do.  Then he made me a hamburger.  It was wonderful.  We sat, had a few drinks, and then my husband went to listen to music, which I stated to sew.  Here are the results of that sewing.

Sewology BOM.  Two more completed, but I am still one behind.  Can you tell what they are?
Needle and cutter.  There are some mistakes with the cutter, but so many pieces, it was scary.
Ruler.
The Quilt Doogle BOM.   All caught up.

The very last one, snowman and his dog.  I got buttons for the carrot noses.

And then to really go forward, I made the next three pieced blocks so all I need is to do the applique.  As usual, Quilt Doodles's Snow Much Fun Block of the Month is so much fun, join us.  You can get the patterns on Cratsy, or Etsy (yes you have to pay, but it's minimal).

The final quilt will look like the picture below.  It's a scrappy look, which you can make scrappy.  All pieces are cut out ahead of time and each month you do the applique.  It's not hard, it's rather fun, and I use my button stitch on the machine to attach the applique.  Three more to go, and then the borders.  I'm very excited to see the final, and to add all my buttons to all the appliques, making it unique.

Well, that was it, that seems like enough.  I have more to do (one more Sewology) and I need to catch up on my other 2nd Quarter listings.  Have a great sewing week.

Missed a quilt.....

I forgot to blog about a quilt that I finished about two weeks ago and have already shown my quilt.  It was touch and go to finish this one.  I got the pattern and material in 2015 from a shop that was suppose to teach me how to do the wool (I just loved the pattern), and they closed.  A wonderful shop in Fort Langley.  It seems all the small quilt stores are closing, and that's too bad.  Quilting hopefully is not a dead art.  With Quilt Con coming here in Vancouver it will  certainly revive the art otherwise.

Anyways, here's the one that I was missing, and this is on my 2018 Finish list (#1 on the list) and also on my American Patchwork and Quilting List.  I need to catch up on that one, as well as keep up with a quilt a month on the 2018 list.  But I love a challenge.  So without further waiting here's the quilt for my cousin Garette and his wife Carol.

They will have to pick it up at my Aunt's house in Manitoba.  My cousin lives in Ohio, and it's too expensive to mail such a heavy quilt (wool on top and flannel underneath).  Carol wanted a traditional quilt and it's for their cabin (if you call a house in the woods a cabin - sorry Carol) in Oregon.  So it will be chilly at night there, this should work.  And if not, they can hang it on a wall, because it's huge.  It's approximately 70" by 85".  I machine quilted it all myself, and all those green squares are 2 1/2 inches each.  Took a long time to go around each one to make the quilt hang flat.  But worth it.  It got "Ohhhh" and "Ahhhhhs" at the  Fraser Valley Quilting Guild Meeting Show and Tell, which always makes you feel great considering all the talent there.  The pattern is by Sara Tuttle and Sandra Brawner.  If' you are interested in the pattern you can get it at Amazon.com   It is hard to get now, even on Etsy.

I love wool and hand stitching it.  The project is great for the car (most were done going to baseball games in Seattle so that was 2 hours there for stitching).  How about you?

Busy Sunday

Actually it's been a busy weekend, but what else is new about that!!!!  One good thing about being ADHD I get a lot done.  For those of you that don't really know what ADHD is it's Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder which affects children and teens and can continue into adulthood.  Usually it's hereditary.  My father was like that and so was my older brother.  ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed disorder of children. People with ADHD can be hyperactive and unable control their impulses'm honest to being blunt, and talk really fast, to the point of missing words.  Knowing me is knowing how to fill in the blanks when talking to me  :)   Luckily I have great friends.  I do get side tracked easily, and can't read a book but I can read 3 books at a time and not mix them up and I can't do a repetitive pattern but I can do more than one quilt with each having a repetitive pattern, so I don't get bored easily, and YES I get  bored really easily, thus the trouble paying attention.

So why am I telling you this?  Because one of the quilts I just finished was a repetitive pattern and it did take me a long time finishing it for that simple fact, and the fact that it was fussy.  But it was so fun, and it's gorgeous so I'm trying another one.  I got the pattern from Sew Kind of Wonderful.  They have two books out, and you can get them at their blog or at Amazon.ca.  The book I used was One Wonderful Curve.  You can see the pattern at this link.    I used all types of greens, anything in my stash, and some in my cut up pile.  But the background is the grunge material that I love so much.  I believe I used two gunge greens as well.  The results is the picture.  Both are completed.  You can open them up.  They cover a 54 inch door.  So instead of getting a barn door constructed to cover the door, I've put up a curtain rod right across the wall, and make quilts that are the length of the door, and are 26" across which covers the door, and a bit more.  This is the second barn door that I made.  The first was my Canada 150 created by Shania Sunga Designs.
Sorry about the bad picture.  But here it is up.  Next time it's up, I'll take a better picture

This one is good

Now, that's not the only one I completed.  As I said I hate doing the same thing over and over again, so I built another one at the same time.  See below:

A poppy caught in the sunlight.  This pattern was created by Elaine Quehl.  She also dyed the fabric and sold it as a kit.  It's 27" by 24".   You can follow her blog at http://elainequehl.blogspot.ca- her work is amazing.
So here is the place of honor where it hangs, perfect!!!

I've also completed a couple more of my BOMs but that's for another time to show you.  That's two down from my 2018 Finish list (2nd quarter)  - #3 and #12.  Also one down from my American Patchwork Quilting list.  And my OMG (One Monthly Goal) from Elm Street Quilts is now completed!!!  That's great!!!  Three goals in one strike!!

Things are going well, and I'm very happy with the results this weekend.  I even got another painting almost completed.  Take a look.  When it's completed I'm going to make a pattern of it as well. I still need to fill in the vase, and have some sugar coming out of the bowl.  Maybe fix the plate as well.  Who knows, I did this in two nights,

How was your long weekend?  Do any sewing?

American Patchwork & Quilting List UFO Challenge

 UPDATED!

Joining another group that I was part of previously.   I make a list, filling out their form (see below), they call a number once a month, and you try to keep up.  So, because I started this month, I need to start work on their last one which for May the number 6 was drawn.  that means you do what you listed in section 6 - the Green Wool Flowers.  Everything in yellow is what I also need to catch up on.  After next weekend I'll say a status for each one so I can do more than one.  Some are partly done.  It motivated me last year, lets hope it does it again this year.

Come join, their is a facebook group that is supportive as well in this endeavor.

Just under the wire for OMG!!!

Got to get this done fast, and considering my busy schedule, I'll be lucky to get it in - have 3 hours to do so....

It's easy to decide which of my UFOs to do this month, because my husband is complaining about how we only have one door for the quilted barn doors made and you can see into my sewing room. I never got around to the second one.

This weekend I got around to cutting out the rest of the strips, and making a few more curves using the Sew Easy Curved ruler (I love that thing and considering I can't do a curve without it - it's worth it's weight in gold), and I'll be on my way.  But the quilting in the first one is going to kill me, so I'll need the time to do the leaf quilting on the leaves and the spirals on the rest.  It will be at least two more weekends for me.

Hooking up to OMG (One Monthly Goal) at Elm Street Quilts.

July's Goals for the Month.

Well, I have a quilt that was completed for a Medallion BOM, the only thing missing (it's all quilted) was the binding.  But my husband...
