2016 UFO Update and an update of the week.

It seems that's all I do is update, but this last week I've been quilting like crazy to catch up and reach goals.  And I'm doing great.  OK not in everything.  This 2016 UFO thing is having problems  ;)

Here's an update of the "All the People's Quilt 2016 UFO Challenge".  I'm very happy how most of this is happening. :

1)  Pixilated Sunflower I created	All cut out and sewn, needs to be quilted.	April- Started.  Done at least 10 hours these past two weeks.  Still working on the center piece of the sunflower but I am approaching the brown, and out of the black.  I'm pleased with the work.
2)  Birds on a wire from Quilt Mania	Have a birds cut out, and some of the small quilts.  Need to continue to put them on and quilt entire thing.	January - FINISH at the start of March - and it's fantastic.  See 2016 quilts tab above for a picture.
3)  Midnight Garden	All material there but haven’t cut anything	March - Well, I have 5 blocks completed, and 7 to go.  I did 3 blocks this month.  I don't think I can do that again, but at least 2 of month to finish.
4)  Garden that’s applique and wool – block of the month	All material is there but nothings been sewn or quilted.	July - Not even started... and still scared of this one....  This will be last for goodness sake.
5)  Blue stars	Two stars made, need to come up with idea to bind	February - Have the design.  Need to complete but not on any of my lists.
6)  Houses – block of the month	All material is there,	August - Given up on this one....
7)  Block Lotto quilt - scraps	Missing 10 blocks – last two months, needs to be put together and quilted
8)  Green strip quilt	Quilts entirely made except for a side edge to make it a queen size quilt.  Need to put on sashing then quilt it all	May was to be #7 but this one was done instead.  At least one more off the list.   FINISH
9)  Lily quilt - all flowers	All completed.  Even sold.  Need to quilt it.
10)  two more quilts from the book PreCut Primers – authors Me and My Sister Designs.	These use small little precuts to create.	JUNE - Have Grade 1 and grade 3, not grade 2 so it's completed.  FINISH
11) Modern quilt - quilt as you go...	New technique learned.	FINISH - see what the green and red quilt looks like.
12)  Chic Pattern	using a precut of 10 inch squares.  Easy - looks great.	Excited to have this one for SEPTEMBER.  Have everything ready to start.  Will make it this month's goal for OMG, but already have one.  I could add it?!!  :)

Now here's what I've done this week, I've been very busy.

I wanted to catch up on all the Splendid Sampler blocks from Pat Sloan, but I'm so behind, I'll be happy with selecting random ones and working on that.    I got 7 done these last two days.  Ten in total this month.  Pleased with that.

I just finished a small quilt (25 " x 25") that I purchased the kit at  Road 17 N Quilt Shop in the town of Winkler, in Friendly Manitoba, Canada.  Got a row by row there as well.  What do you think?  See below...

Went crazy on the quilting.  Speaking of quilting, this is the first time in two years that I registered for doing a quilt in the month, and I've finished it in less than two days....  I'll blog about that later.....  But the quilting on that quilt was crazy, crazy, about 34 hours, and a back that was talking to me.  Then I did this one.  

I'm almost completed my Art Deco Quilt.  Have three blocks to quilt to go, and that one is done.  That will be three completed quilts in two days.  

And just to be difficult, I completed a pair of pants for my sister for Christmas, but I don't want to show it here.  I also almost have done a table runner for my aunt for Christmas, but once more, no showing.....  Like I said, I've been sewing crazy crazy these last two weeks.  The 2nd Tuesday of the month I'll be showing my quilts to the guild.  There are two more I want to have done before the guild meeting.  Don't know if I'll meet that goal.  We'll see.

Updating where I'm at....

Well over the summer I was in California and in Manitoba and I did visit a number of quilt shops to get the Row by Row blocks.  There are a number of them.  My girlfriend and I went crazy.  We got  over 50 of them again!   And once more it was fun as heck.

So where am I now?  Well my list has grown but I have marked DONE where I finished it and what quarter I had finished the quilt in.  Also below I marked what is new from the 1st quarter to the second.  Many of these new quilts friends gave to me.  In order to understand my list below please be aware of the following key:

60. W - Home Tweet Home - McKenna Ryan - 9 blocks. - have 2 of the blocks done and a friend gives me more when I complete the next block.  One more block completed.
61. L - Skeleton quilt from "Dare to be Square".  Material and some of it cut.
62. L - Curved red quilt using Sew Kind of Wonderful Ruler (material all there and cut.).
63. Q - Craftsy Red Circle Quilt.

75. NEW - Amish Quilt - black with different blocks from Craftsy.
76. NEW - 3 queens - 54 Row by Rows for Home Sweet Home.
77. NEW - Wall - Pattern for Light house - no material, just pattern
78. NEW - Queen -  Summer Sampler - joined online - blocks developed by many different quilters.  Only have patterns, no material for this yet.  Waiting to complete this one as I just have too much on my plate right now.

So in total - That's 6 quilts from this list completed so far.  In total I have 68 quilts to complete.  Now that list sounds a little big....  :)    and it looks big, but it also is a bit of encouragement as well, with a few things in red, showing that they're done....  When you give out quilts like I do, you tend to forget what's been done and what you've accomplished.  And with so many cousins now asking for quilts, it's a good idea to keep track of it.

So I continue on... but with pleasure because I continue to love to quilt.

UFO Challenge update

 At the start of the year I signed up for a UFO Challenge where I made a list of 10 quilts and every month a random number was called and the corresponding quilt would need to be finished.  I am so behind it hurts.  I have four done when I should have 8 done......  Jeewiz......  But in my defence I did do two other queen size quilts so I can't beat myself over this.  Two on this list is on my 3rd quarter 2016 list with  Debbie at .http://www.shecanquilt.ca/p/2016-finish-long.html

What's the Plan for Spring Break

We'll have had a busy day at a quilting class for the last two days doing modern improv the easy way and is it every easy.  We learned how to make curved modern blocks and then quilt as you go.  Every method this woman taught us is the easy way to do it.

The only problem I had was letting go. The quilt blocks start at 20" each and you use a version of the whack and stack but you do very loose circles.  You then mix and match and resew everything.  Marianne Haak was the teacher.  Her website is the Quilting Edge.  Tutorials are on the site about how to put thin and fat borders around the blocks you quilt ahead of time.  I'm excited about what I've done so far.  I have 9 blocks completed.  Two of them I sewed together to make a bigger block and it's almost completely quilted.  I'll do another block and practise putting the two blocks together with a wide band of red...  Here's the one block I have so far and a couple of pictures of blocks not quilted.

This one is quilted.  You can see some of the lines at the right by the red stripe.  The white is the number of the block's position in the quilt.  Used Aurifill rust color.
