Finally done from July 2015

 This pattern started from the July 2015 Precuts with a pattern by Lori J. Miller called Summer Harvest.  

I wanted to make it more modern, got a layer cake for 1/2 price, some background material, cut some of the background material and then put it away.  I didn’t even remember why, it’s been 7 years.  With the American Quilting Challenge to help push me to finish it, off I started.  

But when I ran out of material I realized why I put it away.  So now I needed to design my own, similar yet different.  And here’s the result.  Big and small blocks that to me looks like flying geese.  And straight line quilting.

The results with adding black grunge fabric.

The smaller ones are a quarter of the larger,(5”),  the corner flip units are also 1/4 of the smaller - 2 1/2”.

Still fast and easy to make.  With 2 1/2 “ strips in between the big ones and 1 1/2 “ with the smaller ones.  

I love this quilt.  It’s called Fly Away.

Catching up…..

Time is flying by.  Things to do at home, walking with my husband, exploring locally.  But I’m also still sewing.  Still here…

From American Quilting Society.  I couldn’t resist.  They also have a table top but it’s just big enough for a great pillow top.

Getting rid of some of the fabric with tabletops.  Matching with my barn doors.  The pillow below is some left over blocks that came together beautifully.

Summary of the Year

 It’s been a while with teaching and Covid but the good news is I’ve gotten things done.  Let me show you my last two which are Blocks of the Month, that I kept up with.

The first was with Annie’s Mystery quilt books, which you read a mystery, then the blocks give hints of who did the murder.  The results

I added another designer Art East Quilt Co.  it’s the fisherman and the seagull.

The quilting is a wavy line across it all, until the center piece, with the lighthouse.

But the crabs are paper pieced design by Faith and Fabric.  The material is a mixture of scraps.

The 2nd big accomplishment is another BOM from Quilt Doodle.  She’s a wonderful designer, her patterns and free BOM always both beautiful and creative but a nice challenge at the end (placement blocks).  The results is a beautiful addition to any home.  This year I bought the kit from Cindy and it was perfect.  I made a couple of cutting mistakes but there was extra to cover my mistakes.  The result

November before Christmas

It’s not just the holiday rush, it’s everyday rush.  Being back at school teaching with COVID still going is a bit stressful to say the least and the school year has changed so much it seems like I have no free time.  So I believe it is important to make the time to relax and continue to be creative.  This weekend did some sewing.

November’s challenge to complete the Moda be my neighbor BOM.  Been wanting to do it for 3 years.  Have 2 blocks completed.  Plan to do one a week.  6 of them.  

 Also tried a quilt jacket made from one of my older quilts.  Need to see buttons tomorrow.  And completed a kit with beautiful Chinese fabric that is over 10 years old.  It’s 18 by 24.  Great table topper.    Will post both another day.  It was effort to make the time, but being creative is important to your sanity.  Until next time.  Stay safe.

Finished my August Promise.

 Been working very hard to complete a new barn door for my dining area and I finally got it completed.  It took about 3 days to complete the quilting alone but it's stunning and really adds some art to my dining area.  Take a look what do you think?

The quilting is in a wavy pattern.

To make it look like the water was over it.  Really adds to the effect.

Love the design of the eye that Lorna McMahon from SewFresh Quilts made.  Love the entire design.  She is so talented.  Check out all her other patterns.  I have so many and not enough time to make them all.  

The colors I chose were perfect.  They were from the grunge line, pink and salmon pink.  They just made it so great to look at, like a real koi fish, with it's markings and different changes of color.  The pink in the lily pads were scrap pieces that I don't even remember from where, and the same for the leaves, two solid greens from my stash of fat quarters.  But the background, a gradient blue with gold dots that was on sale.  I love it.

But that was not the only thing I completed.  I made pillow cases for a cousin that's for Christmas so thus I can't show it.  I made some other things for Christmas that I'll show later on.  But this one is for my husband who loves lizards.    Some people thought the applique was fish, some sharks. I find that funny.  It's the color blue that matches the koi fish that's doing it.

See them?  You can tell now.  Some people thought crocodiles....  Close enough.  I used the spiral quilting method to get it quilted and made my own bias that matched the place mats underneath.

The placemats were from an Australian line 6 years ago that I bought.  Loved the lizards on it as well and that's where this entire idea came from.  They're nice and big so you don't have to worry about getting anything on the table top and they really do wash up like a dream.  Win and win!!!

So yes I've been very busy.  But I love the brightness of everything I've done and it really does make a change in the dining room.  Isn't that the point?  Change things up a bit?  Wonderful.  What have you been up to?

Catching up on my BOM. (Block of the month) from Quilt Doodle.  Was caught up, now I need to complete August Block.  Love the looks of this.

Another BOM, this time from Annie’s Mysteries, a chapter a month with a block to hint about who did it….  The quilts are really gorgeous.  This one is at a,lighthouse by the ocean.

And then there was a kit that was bought 5 years ago….  Love the colors

So I’ve been busy this summer and even exploring nature.

It’s been a relaxing and busy summer….. still two weeks left.  Wonder what trouble I can get into in that time period…?
