A Number of Projects to finish for December

Finish Along 2014
I'm entering the Q4 Finish-Along.  As you can see from two blog entries ago, I have a number a BOMs that have finish and now I have to finish the final blocks/rows and quilt everything together. There are 3 of them in total.  For the "A Year of Lovely Finishes" I decided to complete the Globetrotter quilt.  But for the "Q4 Finish Along 2014" I'm looking at the different block of the month by Quilt Doodle Designs as well.

I still have to do a row of lights for the quilt, but I have all the other blocks completed.  I'm looking at this....

What I have done

What the quilt looks like

To turn into this...... I'm even thinking of adding one more row, of something like circles of christmas ornaments, to make it longer.  Who knows.  But I'll have it done by the end!!  I started this in January.

It will be a record for me, two quilts finished at once and the other blocks of the month that are not completed.  Good luck to me...  See below for the other finished BOM to be completed.

A third one is from Debbie Mumm's Quilt of Honor.  It will go from this

Blocks

Finished Quilt.
Have a lot of work to complete on this one.

I also finished ViceVersa - unfortunately I'm two blocks behind, and this month we got the final instructions so this will be a surprise to me as well on how it will look.  But it will be a queen and it will be big again and to be completed.  Here is what it should look like.  I want to surprise you with the colours but you can always look at the tags on the left to see some of the blocks completed.

Crafty 2012 BOM was one that I took online, trying Crafty for the first time.  I really like it  - I'm behind in September and October's blocks (there are two each month, one old fashion and one modern) but then I need to put it together.  I don't know if I'll be able to finish this one because I signed up on Crafty for another course on how to quilt each block individually.  I signed up so I can continue to practise my free style quilting.  Starting to be good at it.  I quilt with one of those small singer machines.  Been doing queen sizes so far...

Finally, I would love to finish my sunflower pixelated quilt.  At present it looks like this:

and should be the completed one below.

I took this course in the summer on Crafty (free called Pixelating a Quilt), and I loved it.  Each square will be 2 inches.  You need to take a picture, pixelated, then mark your colours for each square and follow the map you made.  Like a treasure hunt.  I'm so excited about it that I bought the material for a different one without finishing this one.  Boy, am I crazy!!.

My link up is above. Click on the icon and you'll go to "The Littlest Thistle" to see what other quilters are going to do online.  They are so amazing.

To finish six quilts and all the blocks of my other blocks of the month that will not be completed by December will be quite the feat.  I also was planning a christmas quilt and I make all my christmas gifts.  We'll see how it goes.  Good luck to all the people here.

Working on the ALYOF's Quilt

Was sick today.  For the most of the day I was sleeping, the rest of the time I was writing on this blog.  By 2:00 I was feeling better but I was thinking of the quilting I had to do, so I started to quilt.  And here are the results....

Globetrotter top, this picture doesn't do it justice

And I started to put the Doodle Quilt together.  Stay tuned.

Finishing Goals for October

Well September was crazy.  Teachers were on strike for the first two weeks and that meant picketing at the schools from 1:00 - 4:00.  Which meant of course that I didn't have much time to do some sewing, and really I wasn't really feeling like it.  You really have to be in the mood to be creative and for the first time in years, I was not in the mood to be creative.

So I have quite a lot to do, as well as new things that happened at the end of September.  Five of my Blocks of the Month are finished online, two are quilted and finished.  This month three more finished.  See the links to your left to go to the designers of the BOMs.  They're fantastic.  Those are:

  • Debbit Mumm's Quilt of Honor that is a manly military quilt.  I have the corner/stars to complete, but all blocks are completed.  It's a matter of putting things together and making the sashing.
  • Globetrotting by Pat Sloan.  Makes a 9 block quilt like a sampler.  Was a surprise at the very end.  This is my "A lovely Year of Finishes" to do this month.
  • Quilt Doodle Designs and Cindy had a fantastic BOM (apparently this is the 2nd and the 1st was fantastic as well).  It's a Christmas Quilt, I'm all caught up and all I need is to do this month's strip and put it all together.  I'm so excited to finish this one.  When done I'll be starting another similar to this one at Cora's Quilts called Super Mario's, same style.  Love the video game so this works for me  ;)
  • ViceVersa - unfortunately I'm two blocks behind, so this will take a month to complete.  But it will be a queen and it will be big again.
  • Crafty 2012 BOM  - Behind in September's block but then I need to put it together.  I won't finish this one because I signed up on Crafty to quilt each one individually.  Signed up so I can continue to practise my free style quilting..
  • Almost done my Prairie Flowers wool quilt.  Just have the corners to do.
I've also started two more.  They are:
Now for the others...  Yes I know, I'm nuts but here goes:

  • Aurifil October to do.
  • Prairie Flower - two corners this month, two corners for the next.
  • Vice Versa August and September to catch up on then complete the entire thing with the instructions for October.
  • Galaxy of the Stars from my Quilting Guild - One August to do (there were two) and the September to complete.  I have to do this in one week because the meeting for the Guild is next Tuesday.
  • Block Lotto pattern
    • June - It's a sun!!!  Only got one done, need to catch up.
    • July - spokes pattern.  Had 6 done but need to do 8 more..
    • September to do and now....
    • October (Oh boy, am I behind on this one.  But then I made the end of the bed quilt from one of their patters so I shouldn't be punished :)
  • Sycamore Rose
    • block-2  (February)  -  Almost completed.
    • block-3  (March) - not done.
    • block 4 (April) - not done.
    • Block 5 - May - not done.
    • Block 6 - June - not done.
    • Block 7 - July - not done.
    • Block 8 - August. - not done.
    •  Block 9 not done.
    • Block 10 not done.
    • Block 11 not done.
    • Block 12 not done.
Look at all the pieces on Flickr by Sycamore Rose.
  • Free Motion Quilt along  - been free motion quilting now on all my quilts lately.  But this is the course to teach me different styles so I need to get going.  My promise to myself to get some of these done one day.
    • Block 2 styles
    • Block 3 - 1 left to do but at least I'm speeding up.
    • Block 4 - 4 styles
    • Block 5 - 4 styles
    • Block 6 - 4 styles.
    • Block 7 - need to make the blocks before quilting.
Here are my 2014 NewFO Challenges.
  • Modern quilt that I have cut out - green and purple for the newFO Challenge and preparing it for the "Modern Quilt" Flickr Group.
  • Make a Carpenter Star for the New FO Challenge.  Only did a couple of squares. The AYOLF is just taking all of my time.  But it is my next one for September!!!  I always wanted to do one.
  • Start the single swoon quilt.

Now I'm going to buckle down and work like a maniac to get it done.  My promise to myself.  Lets see how good I am.  Did I mention that I started working at a new high school??  I'm crazy!

October is here...

A Lovely Year of Finishes And we're starting to turn on our furnace.  It's still warm enough to wear a jacket vest, but at night it is starting to cool down.  The trees have most of their leaves still, and most are green, but here and there (especially the vine plants) leaves are starting to turn.

My quilting has started to turn as well.  For my New Year's resolution I promised myself I would be more of a presence online, meet others from other places online and get myself networked to quilters all over the world.  Well I certainly did that!!!  I joined 9 blocks of the months, where every month we make a new block that at the end up becoming somewhat of a sample quilt.  I started them in January, and my last "A Lovely Year of Finishes" was one of those quilts fully quilted, binded, and right now is on my queen size bed because it's warm enough for the winter.  Makes me smile just thinking about it  ;)

This month I have had directions from three of my BOM (blocks of the month clubs) to finish off what I've been working on.  Three at once!!!  All three I've kept up (slightly  ;P ) with maybe one behind on one of them.  But that's my goal, finish them.  I've selected one for "ALYOF", a purple quilt that is called "Globetrotting" by Pat Sloan.  And how appropriate is that with Pat travelling all over the US right now teaching, and exploring.  Her web site has great interviews on it, and the BOM was fantastic.  Thanks so much Pat, I follow you on Flickr as well!!!

So here is what it looks like right now......
My blocks - 9 of them

to this....
Pat Sloan's finished quilt.

Good luck to me!!!

Along the way I'll be catching up on some other blocks but that's another blog entry  ;)

Busy, busy, busy....

I've been retired now for over a year and a half, and I can honestly tell you I am semi retired.  I work about 2 days a week, randomly,...
