What was done this November....

A Lovely Year of Finishes
OK, here it is.  I think this has been my best month ever because many of my BOM's (block of a month) quilts came up.  In other words, the blocks are finished and I have to put it together.  So although I said I would finish a quilt that was over 3 years old, with the other BOMs showing up, I had finished I felt the need to do those before the 3 year one....  It's that late so, what's a few more months  ;).

So lets see from my list of things to do for November what I got done:

Globetrotting by Pat Sloan.   - DONE  and I love it.

Made an extra one of the center because I loved it so much.  Once more, the colors just don't make it on the camera, this is purple and green.  Below the square is 24".

Quilt Doodle Designs - done!!!  Great for Christmas

Debbit Mumm's Quilt of Honor - DONE with the top, need to quilt it!

cat likes it
Crafty 2012 BOM  - Not done yet.  Have one to go and then the quilt is done.  It's one of the quilts I said I would complete before the end of December, so it's on my list for next month.  But here's how it looks so far...  Just two blocks to go then putting it together.

Prairie Flowers wool quilt.  Didn't do anything on it, but did so a different wool table top.  Can't how it here, it's for someone's Christmas.  I really need to complete this one because I'm entering it for my Guild's Quilt show.

Snow quilt - Got the material like before but that's it.  Did some of the paper piecing but there are now three blocks to complete.  It ends in January.

Sew Sweet Simplicity at Jacquelynne Steves web site.  - never even started it.  Got to get it going.  Two blocks out now.

Aurifil November to do.  DONE!!! This one was really hard.  And I didn't know it but I missed October as well, so that's done as well.  All caught up but have December to finish.

Vice Versa - need to do two more blocks, but didn't do anything.  This one is finished by the way, so it needs to be finished on my end  ;)

Galaxy of the Stars from my Quilting Guild -
One August to do (there were two),  DONE
September to complete, and October.
I missed November's meeting so I'll have to get the pattern from the group before the next meeting.

Block Lotto pattern - really behind in this one.
  • June - still not caught up on the sun one.  Have one done, but I seem to be scared to do it.  Don't know why....  Need to pull up my boot straps...
  • July - spokes pattern.  Had 6 done but need to do 8 more..
  • September
  • October
  • and now November....
Sycamore Rose
block-2  (February)  -  Did very little on this one and there are 16 blocks in total, and this one is completed online as well.  Really need to get going.

Free Motion Quilt along  - been free motion quilting now on all my quilts lately.  But this is the course to teach me different styles so I need to get going.  My promise to myself was to get this one done soon.  Did try one day, but stalled.
    • Block 3 - DONE
    • Block 4 - 4 styles - not yet for the rest.
    • Block 5 - 4 styles
    • Block 6 - 4 styles.
    • Block 7 - need to make the blocks before quilting.
Apple Thangles - didn't do any last month, or this month.  Darn.
Pixulated quilt that I started on Crafty!!!   Never even touched it.  Need to get going on this one.
Here are my 2014 NewFO Challenges.
  • Modern quilt that I have cut out - green and purple - Not even touched.  Darn!!!

Quilting like crazy last two weeks...

Now I've done it!!!  I joined a group stating I would finish seven different quilts by the end of December, and what do I do?  Start a new one!!  Jeeze!!!  I'm nuts!!!

I have finished  a couple another BOM, this one by Debbie Mum called Honor Star.  This one was great, it was a number of blocks every two months.  Manageable and fun to do.  Take a look at the results.

My quilting Buddie

Two Styles of Blocks every 2nd month
4 blocks each one.
The borders will be white.
But that's not the only thing that I did.  I started a new one as well.  I'm really getting into modern style quilting.  This pattern is by Allie Health.  I saw it in Modern Patchwork Winter 2014 magazine. I really love it.  Started to quilt it this weekend as well. Take a look.  I'm very happy with how it turned out.  Sorry for the darkness of some of the picture but I took this at night, which is usually when I finish something. Need to use my camera instead of my iPad.  It's been a busy 2 weekends, the only time I have to sew.

I'm in the midddle of report cards, which means I'm in the middle of correcting everything that my high school students have handed in, which is a lot after I updated their marks, they started to hand in all sorts of late work.  That takes time to mark, but the quilting is my way of relaxing a bit, so I don't go crazy.  Great results right??

This was my "A Love Year of Finishes", almost done!!!  Just need to finish the quilting.

Quilting style. One white only
Think I'll send this one to the magazine to see if they publish it.  ;)

Now I have two more quilts to quilt (I do free style), and that's a lot of work.  But this means there are more for my friends to admire and my quilting guild to see  ;)

Here I am in the middle of November (well at least Nov 11) and

Van Gogh - Woman Sewing
I haven't done my "Things to do" list.  I'm such a list person.  I not only have that but I have a list from a previous post saying what I will be doing for

  • Globetrotting by Pat Sloan.  Makes a 9 block quilt like a sampler.  But it's done, and I love the colours!!!  Check it out under the tags to see what it looked like in the end.
  • Quilt Doodle Designs and Cindy had a fantastic BOM (apparently this is the 2nd and the 1st was fantastic as well).  It's a Christmas Quilt, and I'm all done for Christmas.  That's so great!!!  See "Doodle" tag to see all the entries.
  • Debbit Mumm's Quilt of Honor that is a manly military quilt.  I have the corner/stars to complete, but all blocks are completed.  It's a matter of putting things together and making the sashing.
  • ViceVersa -  I'm two blocks behind and now I have to finish it off.  Some other people have done it already, which makes me feel more pressure to do it.  It's on my list of things to get done before December, but I want it done before my Mom comes so I can show it to her.  The colours are what colours she loves, and I want to see her under the quilt when she's staying here for Christmas.  Yes a big goal but I'll get it done., so this will take a month to complete.  But it will be a queen and it will be big again.
  • Crafty 2012 BOM  - Behind in September's block but then I need to put it together. It's not bad, I have October and November done, so just need to do what I really suck at, half circles.  You'll see.  I'll do it the cheater way.  Will explain when I blog the finish of it.
  • Almost done my Prairie Flowers wool quilt.  Just have the corners to do.  Will start one this month and work on the other in December.
  • Started a new quilt called Snow. Mostly blues and I already had the fabric.  It's paper piecing and I am getting better at that.....
  • A six block quilt called Sew Sweet Simplicity at Jacquelynne Steves web site.  The first block is October 27th, so I'm gathering my material now.
  • Aurifil November to do. I actually keep on working well on this one.  And there are a couple of blocks that I would love to do a full quilt on....  Not enough time to do it all.
  • Prairie Flower - one corner each month (don't want to take on too much  ;)
  • Vice Versa August and September to catch up on then complete the entire thing with the instructions for October.
  • Galaxy of the Stars from my Quilting Guild - One August to do (there were two), September to complete, and October.  I missed November's meeting so I'll have to get the pattern from the group before the next meeting.
  • Block Lotto pattern - really behind in this one.
    • June - still not caught up on the sun one.  Have one done, but I seem to be scared to do it.  Don't know why....  Need to pull up my boot straps...
    • July - spokes pattern.  Had 6 done but need to do 8 more..
    • September
    • October
    • and now November....
  • Sycamore Rose
    • block-2  (February)  -  Almost completed.
    • block-3  (March) - not done.
    • block 4 (April) - not done.
    • Block 5 - May - not done.
    • Block 6 - June - not done.
    • Block 7 - July - not done.
    • Block 8 - August. - not done.
    •  Block 9 not done.
    • Block 10 not done.
    • Block 11 not done.
    • Block 12 not done.
Look at all the pieces on Flickr by Sycamore Rose.
  • Free Motion Quilt along  - been free motion quilting now on all my quilts lately.  But this is the course to teach me different styles so I need to get going.  My promise to myself to get some of these done one day.
    • Block 3 - 1 left to do but at least I'm speeding up.
    • Block 4 - 4 styles
    • Block 5 - 4 styles
    • Block 6 - 4 styles.
    • Block 7 - need to make the blocks before quilting.
Here are my 2014 NewFO Challenges.
  • Modern quilt that I have cut out - green and purple for the newFO Challenge and preparing it for the "Modern Quilt" Flickr Group.
  • I did a different modern one for the New FO Challenge.  Had all the material (two white charms packs and two black packs).  Got the pattern and material from the Fat Quarter store for $45 two months ago and have been very keen to try it.  So last weekend started and it turned out great.  Here's a picture of what the quilt is suppose to look like.  The top is done, now I'm starting to quilt it (which as you know takes a long time).  Check it out.

This is a long list but as you can see from my list I got a couple of my BOM's done, and will get two more done this month...  It's exciting to finish something.  Wish me luck!!

November's "ALYOF" - this one is three years old.

A Lovely Year of Finishes

Talk about not finishing your homework!!!  My mother sent me money and I bought a kit at a quilting store that is no longer open.  Now that is sad because I loved that store and the owner, but due to medical reasons she had to close in Abbottsford.  So I don't want to show the pattern too closely.  I want it to be a surprise.  The colours are all pastel pinks and greens mostly.  Very feminine.  The quilt is queen size.  The green in the picture  is for the sides, the pinks are for the finish, and I need to quilt and bind the entire thing.   That should take a month  ;)

Mug Rug Exchanged completed.

Mailed and waiting for the reply!!!  I joined a mug rug exchange with international connections because I wanted to meet new people and I did!!  A lovely woman named Jenni from Tasmania, Australia.  I've already learned so much from her.  She introduced me to siggy blocks.  See this link to understand it more.  She exchanges with people around the world.  It's my first time exchanging blocks and to exchange mug rugs was fun.  There was a pattern but you can make it more individual.  Here they are...

Mug rug #1

Mug rug #2

Enough room for your coffee/tea and a cookie and easy to wash.  I loved how they turned out.  One spring and one summer.  Love the butterfly on the one.  Can't wait to see the ones Jenni made!!

I sent her a few bonus items (stitch ripper, colour pencil, Canadian buttons, and a few more happy thoughts).  She sent me some post cards showing me where she lives (one is so cute - this really scarey looking animal I've never seen before), and of course the siggy quilt.  I'll need to make one for her for her collection...

It turned out really well, met someone new who's great to write to, and I'll get two mug rugs out of it  ;)

Finished two more BOM's.

As we all know I started 9 BOM's at the start of January and although I could not keep up all of them, I did do fairly well with most.  Now it's a matter of finishing them.  So what two did I finish this week?  Pat Sloan's Globe Trotting Quilt, and Quilt Doodle's Christmas quilt.

Christmas light row completed!!!  Fancy stitching.

Doodle Quilt

Globe Trotter

Side View - large lap top (about a Double)

Loved the center design so much I decided to make it for the quilt challenge for my Quilting Guild.

Purple and Green
All the way through taking pictures of this quilt I tried to get the right colours and I still can't.  It's the gold thread throughout.  But it is fantastic with the gold throughout and the deep purple for contrast.  Do love how it turned out (the big one as well).  Almost calling you to shine.  ;)

Busy, busy, busy....

I've been retired now for over a year and a half, and I can honestly tell you I am semi retired.  I work about 2 days a week, randomly,...
