May's OMG

The great news is I finished my May OMG for the Quilt show.  I'm so happy.  I had 14 squares to quilt with so much quilting to do.  Here's what the quilt looked like at the start.

Here's some blocks that I have to complete.  All that space....

but the colors are gorgeous on this one, wait and see.  The Craftsy course was by Leah Day, a free BOM with Craftsy.  She does wonderful designs.  I signed up for three courses.  But enough of that, lets continue....

AND now here it is all finished.

Each block had a different style of quilting.  I was learning as I went.  From a Craftsy course I signed up for years ago called "Free Motion Quilting a Sampler" with Leah Day. 

 The quilt pattern was a free course at Craftsy, so I signed up for the next one which was how to quilt it.  Well worth it don't you see?

This is so gorgeous, how with the quilting each block turned out.

I have the quilt hanging up on the wall up at the loft.  It hangs over the edge and you can see it from the living room.  All that off white, then the tie die.  In the sun the quilting really shines out.

May's UFO to go

It's been a while since I've blogged and I apologize for that, but as usual, work took over my life, and I'm trying to tamper that down.  As usual I have a number of deadlines that I had to meet (3 at the same time) and the last one had yesterday as a due date, so that's over with.  But now I have a new due date or deadline.....

Don't get me wrong, I do best when I have a deadline to meet, that's why I make myself lists but these due dates are so tight, and stop the creativity of both my job and my crafts.  I'll be happy when the last one is done.  And that's why I'm doing May's UFO, to help me finish my last due date, a quilt that is due for a Quilt Show in two weeks time.

It's almost complete.  It's all pieced and it's all tied/sewed down, I'm just doing the specific quilting on it, the binding needs to be completed, and then the sleeve.  It has 20 squares, and 14 are completed.  So I have 6 to go, but they're being quilted to death on each square.  Here's the quilt....

Second Quarterly 2018 Finish A Long

I was so happy with last quarter's list and getting so much quilting done in the last two weeks that I only have to finish up a couple and they're done.  I had put four items on the list that I almost completed but having two completed, and two baby quilts completed made me satisfied.  (See here for the blog entry).

So what next?  Once more there is a list to complete, and I'm hoping to to get at least five done this time.  One of them is urgent (a quilt for my Aunt who is going into the hospital April 12th.   So it needs to be completed right away.  Also I have two that were on the list last quarter that are almost done, so it will be easy to complete them right away.  OK, here's the list:

(1)  The Midnight Garden.  It's all completed and I have to quilt it now.  All the wool is completed.  The two and a half inch squares are sewn all around the wool.  It's really very beautiful.  Here's what it looks like now:

(2)  The pixelated eye - which is a Craftsy free course online with Caro Sheridan.  I have the kit and I would like to complete it so I can exchange the pixelated quilt that is hanging right now (a pixelated sunflower I made after this course) can be changed.

(3)  Want to make the 2nd door for the quilted barn door that I have started for my entrance way to my sewing room.  Here is one done.  I need to make the next panel.  I already quilted one with leaf pattern on the leaves, and a spiral pattern all around the leaves.  Doesn't it look great?  The pattern is from Jennny Pedigo and Helen Robinson for Sew Kind of Wonderful.  It's from a book called One Wonderful Curve. It's a fantastic book with beautiful patterns, all quilts have curves.  I have trouble with making Duncan curves.  But using the ruler  from Sew Kind of Wonderful makes making curves simple and easy, with a simple curve that doesn't need pinning.  Check out the ruler and some free patterns at Sew Kind of Wonderful.

So number three is to make a second quilt like the picture shown for the 2nd barn door to cover the entrance way in the picture. 

(4)  I want to complete some Row-by-rows that I've been collecting for the last two years.  At one point I had 110 of them.  I've slowly but surely been going through some (I've done over 20) and I want to set a goal of four of them in this quarter of time.  I am hoping that in December I will have enough to make a queen/king size quilt for my bed.  I am also working at Quilting-as-you-go style for these rows.  What four do I want to do?  Any that catch my eye.  I do have over 90 to choose from.  :)

(5)  Another goal for this quarter is to do another quilt kit that I purchased.  It has old style quilting material that is made of diamonds.  You use 2 1/2 inch strips.  Perfect to make a fast quilt.

(6)  Flamingo Quilt by Elizabeth Hartman - I have been gathering up the pink material to complete the quilt.  The pattern is wonderful.  Here's someone else's quilt already done up.  I am starting from scratch - nothing is cut.

(6)  Deer Course on Craftsy - Under the same idea - Patch work Piecing:  Woodland Animals is a Craftsy course by Elizabeth Hartman.  I just love the deer that she makes for this one.  I want to make a pillow of it, or a smaller quilt.  See her example online.  If not the deer then the bear for a child's quilt.

(7)  Then there is another one that is partly complete.  It's the 100 blocks that Pat Sloan was working on last year with a number of her friends.  I have about 40 completed, and I want to set a goal of doing another 10 blocks, and starting to put them together in shadow boxes.  I want to Quilt as you go rows by rows so I can do some great quiltings.

(8)  I have set a goal to keep up with the Sewology BOM that I am part of.  It's a wonderful quilt pattern by Pen and Paper Patterns on Craftsy.  See below for a picture of the entire quilt.  I am at the part of the needle and the cutter block and then the ruler block.  So two behind.  But all others are completed, and they are all sewing together.  I do have the iron completed, but not with the others.  By the end of the block I expect the scissors and the stitch block as well to be completed.  I'm excited about this quilt.  It's for me alone, and it will be big enough for a full size bed. 

(9)  You and Me Quilt by Tres Chic.  It is taking forever to complete this quilt.  It's for my Aunt in California.  She is getting her operation April 12th, and I would like to send it to her before that day.  The entire quilt is being done in squares about an inch in diameter.  That is taking so much time.  I'm trying to do at least 4 blocks a month but I'm behind and now I really have to step it up.  As you can see the quilt is king size, and all in blacks and white.  So far I can honestly say I am about half way through it, so I am very excited to complete the entire thing.

Thinking this is enough?  Noooooooo.  There's more, and some urgent.

(10)  A table cloth for a friend of mine made by Northcott Fabric, their artisian line.  See a picture of the centre panel.  All I need is to quilt it now.

(11)  A panel of a heron, that's from Artisian Fabric  Absolutely gorgeous.  Just doing it as a panel for a table top.

12) Finish the Craftsy Quilting Class Quilt.  Two blocks done only.  But take a look at the quilting....

13)  Finish my applique and put it into a Redwood Quilt (quilt that is completely made up of red material.  Got a lot to finish here.

 14)  I joined a class for making a quilt called "In Full Bloom".  It's making a flower out of coloured fabric.

15)  I have material for a pink top and the pattern.  Short sleeve, cotton top.  Want to complete it before July.

16)  I also have pink material for a jumper dress that is perfect for this silk/polyester material that has a lot of embroidery.  

17)  The final sewing project I have is with a small knit top and shorts set for the summer.

OK, that's enough.  I'm sure there are a number of quilts here that I will enjoy starting.  Plenty of work and I'm sure I'll be able to complete at least 5 out of this list.

First Quarter - 2015 Finish Along - What I'll do.

I had so much fun the last Finish Along with Andrianne from the On the Windy Side, I want to do it again.  I said I would finish 6 quilts and although I didn't get them done, I sure was busy getting a lot done in the months between.  Really kept me on track Katy, so here we go again.

1)  I found a free Craftsy class that is a BOM online.  Loved it!  Highly recommend it.  Look at the top below.  Turned out great in a lot of psychedelic colors.  It's a lap quilt.  But it's not quilted   I joined another class that shows how to free style quilt each and every block and I have really been working on my free style, so that's my goal.  It will take a lot of time, with 12 different styles on each block.  I figure that will take me at least three months to do.

2)  My Pixelated Quilt. I'm half way there with 2 1/2 inches squares.  It's a sunflower.  Coming along so well, But now I'm thinking of entering it in a quilter's contest, so I really should get going.

3)  This one is the most important.  It's a wool and flannel quilt that needs to be completed in 3 months because I did enter it in my Guild's Quilting show coming up in June.  And I have to not only finish the corners, but quilts each section.  Here is what it should look like...  As I said got the corners and edges to do, Sounds like just a little work, but it's so much more.  There are even more flowers then what is here.  All is on flannel as you see from some of the blocks included.  This will be the major challenge.

Finishes this year.

OK, I understand that this is not due until the very end of December, but quite frankly, with all the stuff happening right before New Years, I won't have another day to complete this work.  So today or rather tonight, I decided to give up, and let it go.  I over did it, stating that I would finish 6 BOM's that I was working on throughout the year, and that I would have all of them done.  Not likely, but now I'm ready to concede. Why?  Because I did other quilts at the last minute for Christmas gifts.  So here is the link to the promise of what I would complete for the 2014 Finish Along with Katy from the "Thee Littlest Thistle".

I also entered a quilt for "A Lovely Year of Finishes from "Fiber of All Sorts" and "Bittersweet", two fantastic sites to follow.  They are doing the same thing next year and I'm all in girls!!!  Still have a list of quilts to complete including some of my BOMs from this past year.  Also have 5 others that I followed but did not start, so I have plenty to do.  I also have 5 other kits that I found when cleaning up my sewing room for my mom who visited.  And my husband after discovering how much fabric I have has said "No more purchasing until I get some of this completed".  He's right of course, but who wants to not own such beautiful material (sigh......).  I need help!

1)  Quilt Doodle Design - wonderful Christmas Quilt - All done.  Here will be a Quilt Hop at Quilt Doodle Designs in January to see everyone's winter quilt.  Join us...

2)  Pat Sloan's Globe Trotter Mystery Quilt BOM - completed it and gave it away for Christmas.  Turned out beautiful with Robert Kaufman material.  But no photo did justice to the material.

Loved it so much I did a smaller version for a Contest for my Quilting Guild.

3)  Debbie Mumm's Quilt of Honor - Husband didn't want to give this one away.  Also turned out exceptionally well.  Plain quilting on it, but really I should redo the quilting to something special in the square blocks.  I'll think about it. Maybe a star of some sort??  Any suggestions out there?

4)  Vice Versa Quilt - here is where I didn't have the time to get to it, even though I had two more blocks to do.  I just didn't have the time to cut out the blocks and do it.  But I've seen finished ones on the Flickr group and so excited to complete, will do it in the new year.  Gen X Quilters also has another BOM starting in January that looks very modern and great!!!  Want to do it but I'll have to think about it. 5)  My free Craftsy class that is a BOM.  Loved it!  Highly recommend it.  Look at the finished product (but not quilted so I failed in this one as well!!).  I joined another class that shows how to free style quilt each and every block (here I go again!!!)

6)  The final quilt that I said I would complete is my Pixelated Quilt.  Once more not done, but half way there. I did do 10 more rows of 2 1/2 inch quares.  It's a sunflower.  Coming along so well,

Size is large, but squares are 2 1/2 inches, so in the end about 2 inches each.

But I did do others, and this is what they look like.  (did I mention I work full time?  Boy am I sucking up!)They are all completed: 1)  !2th Man Quilt for my husband.  Seattle Seahawks of course!

2)  Flannel Quilt (had to finish it when my husband found out how much material I have.  We have a rule, I can't buy more material until I finish some quilts.  Well, I can't buy material now, until I get my stash down, because it's so much).  Called "Friends are like Flowers".  Sorry, bad picture.  Cat loves trying out quilts especially if they're made of flannel.

3)  A smaller quilt top that I've had cut out for 3 years, completed it today when I found it.  But I'm adding buttons for the center tomorrow.  Quilting all done.  Did echo quilting of the flowers.  It's about a yard wide.

4)  A kit that I absolutely loved to make. Graphic Quilt Cross by Allie Health.   It was two charm packs, one in black and one in white.  Take a look at the quilting. Spent a Saturday doing it on my small sewing machine.

5)  Pinky.  It's all binded and finished, with a black backing, and I quilted in white thread.  Looks amazing.  My own design.  The picture below is not binded, but it is done.  See the quilting below as well.

6)  A purse

and finally ..... 7)  a Wool table top for a round table all hand stitched.  Gave to my mom for Christmas.

Does that make up for not getting everything done on my list???
